Three thing that make an effective opening title sequence: AP
- Background Music
- Camera Angles, Shot and Movements
- Background Colour
'Them' (2006): (RS)
- They used a POV shot to make you feel as if you are part of the film
- The music became more intense towards the end to build tension

- They use the sound and effect of rain to build suspense
- The camera tricks you and plays with the audiences expectations

'The Ring' (2002): (RS)
Before starting on our preliminary task we did some research. we looked at a few opening scenes of famous horror movie. firstly we looked at 'The Ring'. this opening scene featured two girls having a sleepover and the start talking about 'a tape'. the tape is said to kill you exactly seven days after the subject watches it. After one of the girls goes back upstairs the other follows a few minutes after. When she gets to the top of the stairs she notices some blood coming out from the bottom of her room. She there goes to investigate and as she opens the door she also gets kill leaving it at a bit of a cliff hanger.
'The Woman In Black' (2012): (AP)
After studying the opening scene of The Ring we the looked at The Woman In Black. this opening scene featured a group of young girls playing in there room. There all playing happily then suddenly stand up. Walk over to the window and all simultaneously jump out of the window. The camera then zooms out from the window and show the silhouette of a lady dressed all in black covered by a veil.
American horror story (2011): (EL)
After watching our first two choices, I decided to look for something different. American Horror Story had very good opening title sequences. It slowly builds you up for what is about to happen in the TV series.
The exorcist (1973): (EH)
The Exorcist opening title sequence is good because it doesn't give anything away. The fact it doesn't give anything away makes you want to watch more to find out what the film is about. It is set in the dark, which relates to horror. At a part of the this opening title sequence there is a gush of wind which makes you feel uncomfortable when watching. I found the music in the trailer really creepy.
