Task 9 was our preliminary task. this was in preparation for our real OTS. Because we have had practice with our other short film 'The Exchange' we had more of an idea of what we were doing this is why our preliminary task was a lot more improved. This time we chose where we wanted to film. This task was mainly based on using different camera techniques.
Task 8 was a task in which we had to research different movie websites like IMDB, Netflix and Amazon Instant Prime. We had to look at things like the most popular type of film genre, the most popular type of sub genre for horror, the most popular horror films e.t.c.
Task 7 was to short film. as this is in to our second month of media they were were not expected to be of high quality as this was a sort of practice task to get us ready for filming our OPS. Each group was given a camera and a place around the school to film. As we had watched horror films in class and also the different camera techniques we had a good understanding of what we were going to produce. After we had all of of the film we needed we put it all together to edit it which gave us good idea of how to edit to put it all together and make it look good. Our final outcome was called 'The Exchange' which had minor errors but over all was good for our first time filming and editing and our group was happy with it.
Today we did a preliminary task about the different camera angles, shots the different movements that we could use during our opening title sequence. - Bird's Eye View - High View - Neutral View - Low View - Worm's Eye View The movements we learn't: - Pan - Dolly - Tilt - Crane - Handheld The shots are: - Extreme Longshot - Longshot - Mid-shot - Close-up - Extreme Close-up We also learnt the 180 degree rule. We then had a task which was to film a conversation between two students and a teacher disciplining one of the students. The 180 degrees rule shows dominance and is really good to use in horrors to show the dominance of the killer over the victim. Today in our lesson we watched 'Servance' and 'The Grudge' during in watching these we had to watch the order of the titles. Our next move is to sort out where the tittles on our storyboards will go. In both these opening title sequences we saw the different ways we could place the titles in but mainly there was one main order in which they went. the director always go last
We have had the ideas of up a hill or in a field with trees or in spooky surroundings like a graveyard for example. We have thought of just filming in a nice, easy access area that isn't hard to get to because of the equipment we wanted to use. We have now got our costumes and we have all the correct equipment to start filming. We have to think of the positives and the negatives of filming in such awkward places. The prime location we are now thinking of is to film on the field that has the trees that fit the plan for out horror. We would be more able to use this location as it is easier to get to and it would be easier to get the actors and back ground actors in.
Today we finally thought of our final idea, we came up with the idea of Alice. This was a great idea as we have adapted it from the videogame Alice madness returns. Our initial ideas are to go up to Chosen Hill and take a table and some stools which were used for the mad hatters tea party. On the table is going to be put some smashed china, a tea pot with fake blood in it, and the mad hatter and the rabbit will be sat at the table, Alice will then be filmed around the woods. We have the idea that the rabbit will be holding a chain saw. We thought that the rabbit would have a fetish with blonde girls and those who visited the woods would later be killed and are murdered in brutal ways, then left for dead. Alice witnesses the rabbit doing this and then become his later victim.
In todays lesson, we were given as a group a type of blood to make, there were a variety of different bloods - peanut butter blood - crunchy or smooth, this is good for zombie bits as it look likes insides, it is made by using crunchy or smooth peanut butter, for a more inside body looking affect use the crunchy and golden syrup and chocolate sauce and red food colouring. There were a lot more different bloods including washing up liquid and red food colouring, gravy granules, our group was given the peanut butter blood to make. Then we did some blood testing, which meant we all got to dress up in old clothes and chuck home-made blood at each other. Some people were to put the edible blood in their mouths and dribble it all out. This was a fun lesson.
In this lesson we learn't how to plan for our opening title sequence. We did this using story boarding. We wrote in each bos what would happen in each scene e.g. the camera angles, sounds, a sketch of what will happening and a brief annotation.
