Film ANALYSIS - (RS, AP)
Edit Decision List
We want to achieve a similar effect to the Opening Title Sequence to Shrooms as we felt that the opening title sequence gave a good disorientating affect on the audience as they used short clips of a woman running through a forest skipping to other random clips. We decided to use this effect while still linking back to our original concept of 'Alice: Madness Returns'. We concentrated most on 'non linear' editing as we decided it would add a more disorientating effect on the audience and therefore would build a lot of dramatic effect. We also liked the idea of suggestive and symbolic editing, similar to the style of editing used in the opening title sequence of 'Dexter'. We liked the idea of keeping the audience guessing and enticed in the film. We also used the 'Ken Burns' effect to draw attention to specific characters and props, such as the 'Mad-Hatter' himself and the 'Fake Alice'.
Sound Analysis
We started off with low intensity, 'music box' sound, as we thought it would like well to our theme of 'Alice in Wonderland'. The chime in the music creates a creepy atmosphere and builds suspense as it was incising to the audience. This soundtrack was perfect for what we wanted at the start of our Opening Title Sequence. We then moved into a more appropriate 'Alice in Wonderland' theme as we found that this piece of music further added the mysterious effect we were looking for. Over this, as Alice approached the camera we used a blood dripping sound effect as blood dripped onto her shoulder so it looked more realistic. We the used horror sounds moving into a high intensity, chase music as Alice was running. We recorded separate breathing sounds as Alice was running and used distorted sounds from a broken VHS tape on or Suggestive scenes. After Alice arrives at the 'Tea Party' we used a ambient sound track to as the suspense has now been broken and therefore in more relevant and appropriate to the current scene.
